It had been 8 years since the Australasian community gathered and we were overdue. The theme we chose was ‘Playing It Forward’ - a Playback-infused pun on the phrase, ‘paying it forward.’ It was about appreciating the gifts we’ve been given by those who came before us, and energising ourselves to share them with those who will come after us. It was a gathering focused on generosity, equity, and gratitude.
2025 is fifty years since Playback was created, and in Australia we celebrate 45 years. The Playback community gathered to look back in appreciation, and forwards with inspiration.

In Australasia we have some of the most experienced Playback Theatre practitioners in the world. We also have many practitioners who have connections into the world Playback community. This provides an opportunity to offer local and international Playback training of the highest standard.

In March 2025, on Dharawal country, 50 people from around the region joined together to connect, play, explore and share this form of theatre we all wrestle with.
We worked, learned, sang, laughed, cried, ate horrible food, shared and honoured each other and our stories.

The workshop will be followed by a mini performance by members of Adelaide and Aldinga Playback Theatre.
